Mitsuru Sushi & Grill is a quaint gem nestled in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, combining charm with comforting Japanese cuisine. Patrons often rave about the restaurant's signature dishes, notably the red bean cake, which one reviewer heralded as the best they've ever tasted—though consumption while fresh is advised. The restaurant invites a cozy and warm atmosphere, akin to a familiar embrace, making it an ideal spot for any meal, be it a quick lunch or a relaxing dinner.
A standout item is the Gacha, a savory omelette filled with various proteins, perfectly paired with rice. This dish embodies the essence of comfort food and has garnered a loyal following. Additionally, customers rave about the tonkatsu and sukiyaki, both crafted with traditional techniques, ensuring delectable flavor profiles. While some reviews mention a need for patience due to the limited staff, this retro establishment's dedication to serving quality dishes makes it worth the wait.
Overall, Mitsuru Sushi & Grill is a beloved place that delights food lovers with authentic flavors and a welcoming vibe, further solidifying its status in the vibrant Little Tokyo community.

The red bean cake is the best I've ever had but you should eat it fresh. The chicken karage is good too. Other than those two, everything else is pretty underwhelming.

You can really taste the umami in each bite The miso soup is perfect and not overly salty and the salmon donburi filling and savory. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable feeling like a warm hug with a side of ur favorite japanese dish

Nice little hole in the wall with affordable food! I discovered this place back in undergrad when they had (and still do) have very affordable lunch specials. Will definitely be back. At the time of our visit, I believe there was only 1 server, but later on (when we were leaving), we saw another staff member walk in.

If you’ve visited Little Tokyo several times and have tried all the Instagram-worthy restaurants you may start to ask yourself, “where can I go to just feel comfortable?” Then you definitely want to try Mitsuru Sushi and Grill. This is a no-frills Japanese diner that serves one of the local favorites- “The Gacha.” It’s something every local loves. You can’t really call yourself a connoisseur of Little Tokyo food until you’ve had this unique breakfast/brunch item. What is the “Gacha” you ask? Basically it’s an omelette filled with your choice of protein (sausage, spam, etc.) and served with either hash browns or rice (the better choice). The salty omelette is perfectly paired with the rice and envelops your tastebuds and hugs your soul with pure goodness! The staff there are what you’d expect from a friendly neighborhood diner- great people who want to feed you a great meal.

This is a retro restaurant, been here for decades. The food is traditional Japanese, sukiyaki was excellent! Everybody's orders were also well done: salmon skin salad was delicious, the omelette and tuna salad. I ordered tonkatsu to go and that was delicious, not dry at all. It is a small cafe so be patient. Your order is coming.

This is definitely a locals spot. Food was great. We had Bbq spare ribs, very tender and flavorful. The sticky rice was perfect

This is my personal quiet place when I need to concentrate. I've known the crew for so long they're like family. Personal favorites of mine are the donburi(any of the rice bowls) if you want to be full and carb up. I'd recommend the okonomiyaki as well, very rich it feels like heaven if you can handle the calories and yet, why worry if it's good. ;) Lunch specials are affordable as well if you need a quick lunch break. Specials vary during the week but they do have it listed for you. Most importantly, the sushi is top notch. You can go to a 5 star top of the line restaurant and pay top dollar, but it would never taste the same as theirs. Food's always better when it's made with love and they definitely can tell you they love what they do otherwise i wouldn't be a regular that's been coming back here for a decade by the time of this review.

A Symphony of Flavors at Mitsuru Sushi and Grill After an extended hiatus from indulging in the art of sushi, my return to the experience at Mitsuru Sushi and Grill was nothing short of extraordinary. This hidden gem, which I stumbled upon through a friend’s recommendation, proved to be a culinary revelation. As a party of three, we embarked on a gastronomic journey, each selecting different dishes to sample the breadth of the menu. The ‘Special B’ sushi platter at Mitsuru was a masterful display of freshness and finesse, each slice of sashimi whispering tales of the sea with its impeccable texture and taste. The ‘Rainbow Roll,’ true to its name, was a vibrant mosaic of flavors that melded in harmony, captivating our palates with every bite. The Ramen was an authentic rendition of this classic dish, with a broth that was rich and robust, cradling tender slices of pork that melted in our mouths, while the marinated eggs added a level of umami that was simply transcendent. The Gyozas were the perfect accompaniment, their crisp exteriors giving way to succulent fillings that were a testament to the chef’s prowess at Mitsuru. It’s not just the food that makes Mitsuru Sushi and Grill special. It’s the feeling of discovery, the joy of sharing exceptional food with good company, and the promise of returning to what now feels like a culinary haven. In conclusion, Mitsuru Sushi and Grill is a celebration of Japanese cuisine, a place where each dish is crafted with passion and precision. For anyone seeking an authentic sushi experience, Mitsuru deserves not just a visit, but an encore.
